ASI Peak Adventures is a non-profit campus outdoor recreation project operated by the Associated Students, Inc. at California State University Sacramento. It originated from a student-run bicycle tool co-op in the 1970s, and has now grown into a comprehensive outdoor program covering four core areas: organized outdoor trips, bicycle services, team development, and youth summer camps. All services are open to the general public, not limited to the campus community.
Its core services fall into four categories: First, it organizes graded outdoor adventure trips suitable for everyone from beginners to experienced outdoor enthusiasts, providing transportation, gear, and professional guides. Second, it operates a full-service bike shop offering new bike sales, repair and maintenance, and locker rental. It also provides a rebate of up to $200 for currently enrolled students purchasing a new bike, and offers free air inflation and chain lubrication to the public on a daily basis. Third, it runs the Campus Challenge Course, which features more than 20 high and low ropes elements, and provides customized team building services for schools, companies, and community groups. Fourth, it offers age-grouped outdoor youth summer camps, staffed by professional certified counselors to ensure safety.
As a non-profit campus-based program, Peak Adventures has very clear standout advantages: Pricing is far lower than commercial outdoor operators, with additional discounts for current students and faculty; it has a complete, standardized safety system — all staff receive professional training and hold certifications in first aid and outdoor rescue, and challenge course equipment is inspected annually strictly following industry standards; it adheres to the "challenge by choice" philosophy, never forcing participants to push past their comfort zones, which makes it very friendly to beginners and people of all different fitness levels. It also offers accessible challenge course elements to accommodate participants with disabilities.
The drawbacks are also obvious: All services are based locally in Sacramento, California, and do not cater to out-of-state or international users; in-person services are only open on weekdays, and it is closed on weekends; the online booking system occasionally has glitches, and some services require in-person booking at the facility; the entire website only offers English, with no multi-language support.
The website can be accessed directly without a VPN, but all services are designed for local users in the United States, and have no practical value for users based in mainland China.
