Project Positioning

leanroadmap.org is an open-source R&D project focused on consensus layer reconstruction in the Ethereum ecosystem. Its full name is Lean Ethereum Consensus Roadmap, with the core goal of completing a full redesign of Ethereum's consensus layer to address the pain points of the existing consensus mechanism in quantum resistance, finalization speed, and decentralization. It is an open-source community project focused on underlying cryptographic technology R&D.

Core Content

The project advances around four key areas:

1. Launch the post-quantum secure hash signature algorithm leanSig and aggregated signature scheme leanMultisig to replace the existing BLS signature and resist quantum computing threats
2. Refactor the consensus mechanism to achieve second-level transaction finalization, cutting Ethereum's original 15-minute finalization time down to just a few seconds
3. Push forward P2P network upgrades to adapt to faster block timing and lower the entry barrier for verification nodes
4. Split the roles of block production and verification to ease centralization pressure

So far, the project has completed multiple rounds of testnet iterations, released technical specifications and multi-language client prototypes, and all progress and research materials are fully open to the public.

Pros, Cons & Suitable Users

Its strengths lie in its forward-looking direction, complete openness and transparency, and the multi-team collaborative development model that ensures technical diversity. The downside is that it is still in the early R&D stage: most performance targets are yet to be completed, and it still has a long way to go before mainnet launch. This project is only suitable for Ethereum core developers, cryptography researchers, and blockchain underlying R&D engineers to participate; there is no practical use case for ordinary crypto users.
