This is the official website of the Global Multicentre Peripheral Intravenous Catheter (OMG PIVC) Epidemiological Study led by Griffith University, Australia. It is the largest-ever global survey on the current status of peripheral intravenous catheter use. When recruitment was open to healthcare institutions worldwide in 2014-2015, the project gathered more than 400 hospitals from 49 countries, and collected clinical data on more than 40,000 PIVC cases to date. The research team is still sorting and analyzing the data, and the final results have not been published yet. The core purpose of the website is to share information such as the study design, compliance requirements, and multilingual informed consent documents with global participants and the public.
The website offers multilingual participant information files for download, covering 15 languages, including all kinds of official agreement documents for individual participants and participating institutions. It also publicly shares complete data processing rules, privacy confidentiality protocols and ethics approval information, clearly stating that all data is anonymized to strictly protect the privacy of participating institutions and patients. In addition, it fully discloses the project funding sources, and clarifies that funding organizations do not participate in study design or data analysis, making conflict of interest information completely open and transparent.
On the plus side, this project fills the gap in global data on the current status of PIVC use, particularly addressing the lack of relevant data from developing countries. The study has a rigorous design and high compliance transparency, making it a valuable reference for global clinical nursing research. The downside is that study recruitment concluded as early as 2015, the website has not been updated with new content for a long time, it only retains historical information as an archive, and no longer accepts new participation applications.
The website can be accessed directly and normally, with no obstacles to page loading. It is suitable for Chinese healthcare researchers and public health scientists to refer to when organizing and designing international multi-center clinical research and related compliance work.
